Smart Talk Presentation 2018 :
This video is available to all Clearinghouse members. Biography : Tom is the lead clinical psychologist for the Olympic Winter Institute of Australia and was the principal psychologist for the 2018 Australian Winter Olympic Team. Before joining the AIS, he led a primary care mental health service in Western Sydney and was previously an official service provider for the Canadian Sport Centre - Manitoba. Tom is an honorary fellow at Deakin University and continues to conduct research in the area of clinical sport psychology, subjective wellbeing and happiness. Most recently he partnered with the Australia Olympic Committee to understand athlete experiences and evaluate mental health during the post-Games period. Synopsis : In preparation for the 2018 Winter Olympics, the Australian mogul ski team utilized an innovative approach to biofeedback training to enhance psychological readiness and ultimately contribute to sport performance. Computer based and mobile platforms were used to customize individual training programs for each member of the mogul ski team to specific contexts and key periods of time throughout the preparation and competition phases of the Olympic season. This presentation will provide an overview of this program, discuss findings and highlight recommendations for future work with athletes and coaches.
