Biography - Matt Favier : Matt became AIS Director in March 2012 and has been instrumental in the development and implementation of Australia’s Winning Edge 2012-2022, the AIS game plan for high performance sport. He is the Deputy Chef de Mission for the 2016 Australian Olympic Team. Matt was an Australian international 800m runner and an AIS scholarship holder from 1983–86. He has also coached athletics in Australia and the UK and has a degree in physical education and an MBA from the University of Technology Sydney. He has worked at the Queensland Academy of Sport, NSW Department of Sport and Recreation, Athletics Australia and the Australian Paralympic Committee. He also worked with UK Athletics and UK Sport, where he oversaw the programs of Olympic medal-winning athletes and coaches. Biography - Todd Greenberg : Todd Greenberg is Chief Executive Officer of the National Rugby League (NRL) which runs the world’s premier Rugby League competition, is responsible for the Australian male and female representative teams and the annual State of Origin series. As CEO, Todd oversees all areas of the business including football operations, commercial, digital, legal, finance, media and communications, integrity and strategy. He had previously worked as the NRL’s Head of Football where he was responsible for a ground-breaking concussion policy and a referee’s ‘bunker’ which has revolutionised decision making in the game. He is a strong advocate for elite athletes using their profile and reach within the broader community to enable positive change. Now | Best | Next was a joint initiative between Australia’s high performance strategic sports agency, the AIS and the National Rugby League (NRL) with support from practitioners in Olympic and Paralympic sports, state institutes, professional sporting codes and international organisations. It signified a systemic and united approach to emphasise the readiness by Australian sport to collectively work together to highlight the importance of athlete wellbeing. The program has been designed to help speakers, presenters and delegates by exchanging diverse experiences and perspectives. We will delve into what we are doing NOW in athlete wellbeing, explore what is BEST practice, and uncover emergent thinking around how to progress to NEXT practice.
