Presenter Biography : A pro-active and entrepreneurial oriented athlete development specialist, Duncan has worked in elite and professional athletics for nearly 15 years. He co-founded the Professional Athlete Transition Institute (PATI) at Quinnipiac University and the Professional Association of Athlete Development Specialists (PAADS) with several leading North American sport organisations. Duncan has managed the professional development needs of the National Hockey League (NHL) Alumni and NHL Players’ Association through the Life after Hockey and the NHLPA Professional Development programs, working directly with hundreds of active and retired ice-hockey players. He has co-authored and published peer‑reviewed articles relating to athletic transition and athletic identity related issues. Duncan has previously coached NCAA Division I hockey and scouted part-time for the Vancouver Canucks. He is the Director of Operations for PAADS, which is seeking to improve and professionalise the field of athlete development. Duncan also founded Game Change Athlete Development Services & Consultancy. Game Change works with elite amateur and major professional sports organizations and their athletes to address issues ranging from athlete experience reviews to broad based athlete development interventions. Duncan received his BA from the University of British Columbia, an MBA from Quinnipiac University..
Summary Now Best Next was a joint initiative between Australia’s high performance strategic sports agency, the AIS and the National Rugby League (NRL) with support from practitioners in Olympic and Paralympic sports, state institutes, professional sporting codes and international organisations. It signified a systemic and united approach to emphasise the readiness by Australian sport to collectively work together to highlight the importance of athlete wellbeing. The program has been designed to help speakers, presenters and delegates by exchanging diverse experiences and perspectives. We will delve into what we are doing NOW in athlete wellbeing, explore what is BEST practice, and uncover emergent thinking around how to progress to NEXT practice.
