Presenter : Dr Jason Mazanov, Senior Lecturer with the School of Business, UNSW-Canberra. Dr Jason Mazanov, MAPS, is a Registered Psychologist and Senior Lecturer with the School of Business, UNSW-Canberra. Dr Mazanov was the first social scientist to win a grant from the Australian Anti-Doping Research Programme in 2005 to establish a research agenda for social science based inquiry into the role of drugs in sport. The Agenda was first published in Sport in Society in 2009, and again by Routledge in 2012. Dr Mazanov has published and presented widely in the area of performance enhancing substance use in sport and society, and is founding Editor of the Elsevier Journal Performance Enhancement and Health. Following the Australian Crime Commission Drugs in Sport and Organised Crime report, Dr Mazanov appeared in numerous media and current affairs programs, including SBS Insight, ABC Catalyst, The Guardian, the Sydney Morning Herald, The Drum and The Conversation. Dr Mazanov Chairs the Social Research Sub Committee of the ACT Health Human Research Ethics Committee, and is a Senior Member of the International Network for Humanistic Doping Research. |
Summary |
SDA and the AIS have assembled a line-up of some of the most experienced and well respected sporting professionals to have a frank and thought provoking discussion about the use of dietary supplements by athletes. Presenters will discuss the risks, rewards and alternatives that may not have been critically debated previously, focusing on the consequences not commonly considered, and the alternatives to current practices both from the delivery of dietary supplement programs, and the role each professional should play in the solution. |
